Lets Learn Better Parenting Styles

Many of us know the parenting style in an African setup is the military style. If we see any form of gentle parenting being exercised we are all shocked and feel like it's an abnormal occurrence.

My question is when you were being raised, did you feel like home was your safe place when things in the outside world got tough?

Most of us are always struggling to succeed and leave home so that you can live the life you wished for. The problem is even though we knew we didn't like the military style , the new parents are still using it on their children. This is because it's the only style your mind is used to and it automatically gets back to that.  As a result you become that parent that you wished would just talk to you and listen but didn't.  You don't value conversation with your kids. You don't let your child have a dialogue  with you or try to understand their minds.  Give them a scenario and listen to what they think about it.

Let them know how to communicate and express themselves . Let them tell you what they decided to do whatever they did.  Get to understand your child's line of thought first , and then you'll know what problem you need to handle . You'll know what kind of talk you need to give. You'll understand when they are just being naughty and indiscipline that will warrant a punishment . Let's also remember not all punishment has to be physical.  Let's find better ways that will instill discipline and not have kids try to learn how well they can cope with the caning method so as to overcome it.
